Nowadays, if you don’t exist on the Internet, you might as well not exist. One of the first things search committees are going to do with an interesting candidate is to research her. This means that you will be Googled, and that any person on the job market should be prepared with an professional online presence. In this webinar, I will cover one aspect of creating this online presence: getting started with your own academic website.

In this webinar, I will lead you through the creation and setup of your own academic website. You should expect to leave this seminar with your own personal website. The website will be available for you to test for free for seven days after the webinar ends, after which you may purchase hosting from the company, or migrate your content for use with another service.

Issues covered include:

    – how to make a beautiful website even if you have zero programming knowledge;
    – A comparison and evaluation of different types of content management systems (WordPress, Weebly, Wix, etc.) for academic use;
    Рthe importance of having your own domain name vs. using your university’s webpage,
    – a quick comparison of hosting services and

    – a hands-on workshop where you will actually build your own academic website.

Because all participants can expect to leave the webinar with a an actual website, the size of EACH webinar is limited to FIVE participants only. I will also email instructions following the webinar about how participants can convert their temporary website into something more permanent, in their own domain name (www.janedoephd.com), and several resources to help you with getting started with web design.

NO PRIOR PROGRAMMING KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED.
